Golden lattes (also known as golden milk) are the newest health drink trend to hit the internet – despite the odd sounding name! There’s over 30,000 Instagram posts with the hashtag #goldenmilk alone. We’ve broken down bulletproof coffee and matcha tea before – well this is their cousin! So, should you be chucking out your matcha and stocking up on golden latte ingredients?

What is it?

It’s basically turmeric mixed with any kind of plant-based milk – it’s that easy! Turmeric is a yellow spice (hence the golden colour of the drink!) that we’ve blogged about before. To give you a recap, turmeric contains a super-powerful antioxidant called Curcumin. It’s great for your heart, a superhero against inflammation, plus it supports your digestive system and brain – what more could you want? There’s only so much turmeric you can put into a drink however, so you won’t get amazing benefits from drinking just one latte. But try one every morning, and all those little benefits will soon add up!

How do I make one?

First, take your pick of any of the plant-based milk options out there. Coconut milk, almond milk and soya milk all work well. You want to add the turmeric to the milk and heat it gently – you’re aiming to froth the milk a little for that perfect latte foam! Most people won’t be fans of the taste of turmeric and milk alone (and if you are, more power to you!) but don’t worry, there are extra things you can add to improve the taste! Try cinnamon for a richer spice flavour, or a pinch of black pepper if you want to improve how much turmeric your body absorbs. You can add coconut oil – just like a bulletproof coffee – for its health benefits and to create a smooth, creamy consistency. For those with a sweet tooth, raw honey is a great option (no artificial sugars or sweeteners!) or some vanilla essence works too.


There are a whole host of health benefits to golden lattes – there’s a reason they’ve achieved such cult status!

  • Good for your skin – with its anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric is great for reducing redness in the skin, but it’s also good for retaining moisture – goodbye wrinkles!
  • Helps your brain – protects against memory loss, and promotes cell renewal in the brain.
  • Infection fighting – turmeric has anti-bacterial properties, giving your immune system a boost!
  • Relief from pain – anti-inflammatory properties strike again! These lattes can give you relief from many kinds of pain, especially muscle pain, which makes them great for after an intense workout.
