Shopping for a coach can be tough. These days you can’t scroll down your Facebook or Instagram feed without being exposed to at least a dozen different coaches, each with a different style, approach, and personality.

Your coaching needs are also a very individual thing. You may need some TLC, you may need a drill Sgt., you will definitely need a personality you can mesh with, but above all, you need a coach whose approach and philosophy you can completely buy into and adopt as your own, at least for your time with that coach. What does this have to do with being a good personal training client? Everything!

I can tell you, as a coach, the clients who see the BEST results are those who completely buy into the plan and slam the pedal to the floor. Your willingness to do this will dictate your success with your coach’s program above ALL else.

Many clients believe that to be a good client, you need to learn fast, don’t ask TOO many questions, never mess up on your diet, never miss a workout, etc. Well let me tell you from the perspective of a coach; we like when you ask questions. Hell, I LOVE when you ask questions. It means you want to get it, you want to know the why’s and the how’s, and you want to embody the program to its fullest. As far as missing workouts and messing up on nutrition goes, that means you’re human, nothing more, nothing less. And guess what, coaches love human clients, so you’ve got that going for you right off the bat.

Clearly, being a good client has nothing to do with any of the above, and everything to do with simply buying in to the coaches program. You may have a hard time doing this however. You may feel the need to build trust over time, or you want to avoid getting too excited about something until you can see if it works or not. This is understandable, however, you will need to squash this if you want to REALLY see how well your coaches program will work. If you tend to struggle with trusting your coach too early, one of the best ways to combat this is to ask your coach every question that runs through your mind. Every doubt and concern. If your coach is worth the hard earned money you spend on them, they will not mind one bit. In fact, it will give your coach the peace of mind that you are attempting to buy in and commit fully, and that is really the initial goal because that is what is necessary to reach all the other fitness related goals.

Shopping for a coach can be a daunting task, but once you commit to your coach, commit to the whole shebang. Take that training plan, nutrition plan, and lifestyle plan, and drive it hard like a Lamborghini. Slam the pedal to the floor,  swing for the fence, throw the haymaker….you get the idea. Achieving your fitness related goals will not be accomplished with half assed commitment and effort that lacks devotion. Changing your body requires a dedicated and focused actions and this is accomplished with a full commitment to your plan.

Why does this make you a good client? Because it ensures your success, and we want to see you succeed as badly as you do.
